The 7th and 8th grade orchestras at Sequoyah Middle School are intended for students who have completed the beginning orchestra program, having one to two years of prior orchestra experience. Beginners interested in joining orchestra during their 7th or 8th grade year should plan to meet with Mr. Leslie prior to their entrance into the program. We do not cover the basics of string playing. Students entering without prior experience will be expected to work independently, and will need to put a considerable amount of at home practice time on their instrument in an effort to get caught up.
Our 7th grade orchestra rehearses daily during second period while our 8th grade orchestra rehearses daily during eighth period with Mr. Leslie. Orchestra is a year long elective course. Students in these advanced ensembles will continue to establish themselves on their instruments through the study of more complex musical concepts while working to further establish a strong fundamental foundation. 7th and 8th grade orchestra students perform in three concerts at Sequoyah, while also performing throughout the South Sound community.
